Into the Light is the main theme of all the programming of Venaria Reale starting from 21 June 2025, the first day of summer with exhibition events, meetings, in-depth talks and special initiatives dedicated to it.
Into the Light significantly distinguishes until next year the activities of the Reggia and its Gardens.
The great theme of “light” in art, of particular importance in general in the Baroque era, is expressed at the Reggia through its architectural masterpieces: the Great Gallery, the Church of St. Hubert and the Citroniera by Filippo Juvarra.
The programming of Into the Light aims to enhance the intrinsic features that characterise the Reggia in order to re-propose to the public the Italian Royal experience in the different declinations and areas of interest (cultural, leisure and wellness).
The Reggia Into the Light
From 21 June to 31 August: Frames
Multimedia installations, with light projections overlapping the canvases of the Hall of Diana. Project by Davide Ferrario, in collaboration with the National Museum of Cinema of Turin
From 28 June to 31 August: Anthony McCall. Solid Light
The “light sculptures” of McCall, spectacular beams of light in dialogue with the Baroque environments and the perspectives of the Reggia. Exhibition in collaboration with Tate, UK.
From 28 June to 30 August: Summer Nights at the Reggia
Festivals, dreams, art and visions with the Gardens lit by thousands of candles.
Every Friday and Saturday and Thursday 14 August, the Reggia extends its opening hours to 11 p.m. with a special ticket. The Gardens host shows and live music, and offer pleasant relaxing moments and aperitif at sunset.
Into the Light in autumn
The programming continues in autumn with Lectio on the theme of light, a series of meetings, and the publication of a book on the Great Gallery, the space of light par excellence of the whole Reggia, that will analyse Juvarra’s work from the historical and architectural point of view.
Into the Light in winter
Immaginaria and Christmas Nights at the Reggia
The Christmas event of Immaginaria from 6 December 2025 to 6 January 2026, organised in cooperation with the city of Venaria Reale, represents the final celebration of Into the Light with the Luminographie project by the Italian-French artist Gaspare Di Caro, which includes spectacular light projections on the facades of the Reggia and in the old town.
Into the Light: the contemporary art of Venaria Reale
The theme of light had already been developed at Venaria Reale with contemporary art interventions still present:
- Peter Greenaway’s film work, Peopling the Palaces, is an integral part of the tour.
- The Garden of Fluid sculptures by Giuseppe Penone in the Lower Park with the most visually relevant work Direction toward the light.
- Dove le stelle si avvicinano di una spanna in più (Where the stars come one span) closer by Giovanni Anselmo at the Grand Parterre.
- Rendez-vouz by Grazia Todari positioned along the tour of the Reggia, a large-scale photograph dominated by light in which the artist depicts the capsules of Gemini 6 and Gemini 7 suspended in the Baroque space of the Great Gallery.
- Assembly by Marinella Senatore, a large installation of light inspired by the traditional luminaries of southern Italy, exhibited at the Cascina Medici del Vascello.
- Storyboard. Paladino at the Reggia of Venaria, a work by artist Mimmo Paladino that brings together painting and drawing, sculpture and installation and the lighting effects of cinema.
- The square lights up by designer and architect Michele De Lucchi with the particular “La Venaria” LED street lamps that illuminate Piazza della Repubblica in front of the Reggia.
