Masterclass / Workshop Luciano Berio

As part of the programme at the Reggia of Venaria and in collaboration with the Late Spring Music Festival, one hundred years since the birth of the renowned composer Luciano Berio, Angela Ida De Benedictis (musicologist), Andrea Lucchesini (piano) and Claudio Pasceri (cello) will hold a masterclass dedicated to the solo piano and solo cello music of the great Italian Maestro. The repertoire will be examined in depth from a poetic, technical-instrumental and aesthetic point of view.

The dialogue between the skills and experience of the three experts, accredited performers and connoisseurs of the works on the programme, will shed light on the compositional, textual, performative and sonic aspects of the piano and cello repertoire, as well as on the conceptual nodes of ‘recreation’ and ‘intercultural appropriation’, offering an effective example of disciplinary integration.

The Masterclass

The masterclass will be dedicated to the performance practice of Luciano Berio's works for piano and cello and to the analysis of some processes of formal definition of important pieces, taken as examples of a compositional practice that could potentially be extended to his entire artistic career.

The masterclass is addressed to young Italian and foreign musicians who already have pieces by Berio in their repertoire and/or who wish to take advantage of an opportunity to improve and deepen their knowledge with teachers who are highly skilled in this repertoire.

The masterclass is open to pianists and cellists of all nationalities who are under 35 years of age on 31 December 2025. The admission of participants (maximum 3 for each instrument) is subject to the submission of an audiovisual recording made live - which should not be dated before the last six months.
